Con la llegada al cine de ‘Speed
Racer’ la acción animada pasa a un nuevo
nivel

05/09/08. Una de las series
de dibujos animados de culto más famosos en el
mundo está por llegar a los cines de todo el
planeta. Conocido en español como “Meteoro”,
la serie japonesa “Speed Racer” tiene como
objetivo llegar a una audiencia joven para que esta
descubra un nuevo estilo de hacer cine.
“Speed Racer” está basada en la serie
clásica creada por el pionero de animación
en Japón, Tatsuo Yoshida. El argumento trata
de las tribulaciones de Speed Racer, un audaz corredor
de autos, y su lucha para llegar a ser el mejor de la
Liga de Carreras Mundiales (World Racing League, WRL).
Para Speed, las dos cosas más importantes de
su vida son las carreras y su familia. Todos ellos forman
parte de uno de los pocos equipos de corredores independientes
que quedan.
Ahora, deben competir contra corredores que tienen grandes
patrocinadores, y las cosas se ponen cada vez más
difíciles. Para Speed Racer su dilema está
entre aceptar ser patrocinado por un empresario corrupto
por el bien de la fortuna y fama que pudiera conseguir.
“Speed Racer” es el primer trabajo de los
hermanos Andy y Larry Wachowski como escritores y directores,
luego de la trilogía de filmes “The Matrix”.
“Con ‘The Matrix’, los Wachowsky crearon
un estilo visual que cambió la consciencia de
los que ven cine. Ahora, uno puede ver cosas inimaginables
en un film”, dice el productor Joel Silver. “Con
‘Speed Racer’, los directores se propusieron
cambiar el modo en que uno ve las películas.
Ellos ya tenían un nuevo concepto en mente para
relatar la historia de autos volando para la pista más
espectacular y arriesgada del mundo. Es un nuevo y distinto
uso de técnicas, que combina imágenes
creadas por computador (CGI), y acción en vivo.
A los hermanos les gusta romper moldes que ya existen,
y llevar las cosas a su extremo”, explicó
el productor.
Los hermanos Wachowski, idearon un tipo de carrera muy
audaz y única. Los autos de carrera de la película
“Speed Racer” son un diseño de perfecto
equilibrio de forma y función, capaces de desafiar
la gravedad y realizar increíbles piruetas a
más de 400 millas por hora. Cada uno de esos
autos, según los productores, fue diseñado
para reflejar la personalidad de su piloto hasta el
último detalle.
“Speed Racer” era ya una clásica
serie de dibujos animados televisiva. Al llevarla a
la pantalla grande, los Wachowski pudieron darle una
nueva perspectiva a este clásico, y al mismo
tiempo, alcanzar el público que busca películas
familiares.

the most famous cult cartoon series in
the world is about to be in movie theaters
around the globe. As a main objective
“Speed Racer” aims to reach
young audiences so they can discover a
new cinematic style.
“Speed Racer” is based on
the classic series created by the pioneer
of Japanese animation, Tatsuo Yoshida.
The plot focuses on the trials and tribulations
of an audacious car racer and his struggle
in becoming the best racer in the Word
Racing League, WRL. For Speed the two
most important things in his life are
racing and his family. Together they make
up one of the last independent racing
teams left. Now they must compete against
racers who have big sponsors and things
get more difficult every day. For Speed
Racer the dilemma lies in whether or not
he should accept the sponsorship of a
corrupt businessman in turn for the fortune
and fame this could yield.
“Speed Racer” is the first
project brothers Andy and Larry Wachowski
have done as writers and directors since
working on “The Matrix” trilogy.
“With ‘The Matrix,’
Larry and Andy created a visual style
that altered your consciousness as you
watched the movie. You saw things that
you could not imagine happening on film,”
said producer Joel Silver. “And
with ‘Speed Racer,’ they wanted
to change the way you see movies again.
They had a new concept in mind for telling
the story with cars flying along the most
spectacular and challenging racetracks—fantastic
action sequences like nothing you’ve
ever seen. It’s a new approach to
combining CGI with live action. The brothers
like to break already existing molds and
take things to an extreme”, the
producer said.
The Wachowsky brothers devised a bold
and unique type of race. The racing cars
from the movie are designed with perfect
balance form and function, capable of
defying gravity and doing incredible pirouettes
while going more than 400 miles an hour.
Each one of these cars, according to producers,
was designed to reflect the personality
of the racer right down to the smallest
detail.
“Speed Racer” was already
a classic as a cartoon series, and by
taking it to the big screen the Wachowsky
were able to give this classic a new perspective,
and at the same time reach a new audience
that is looking for something familiar.
