Es ‘Showtime’ para
Ángel y Khriz

03-13-08. Han pasado tres
años desde que escuchamos por primera vez el
mega-hit de los reggaetoneros Ángel y Khriz titulado
“Ven Báilalo”, que se escuchó
por los clubes nocturnos de los Estados Unidos, Puerto
Rico y Latinoamérica. Ahora el dúo ha
lanzado su primera producción de estudio desde
entonces: “Showtime”.
Para este álbum, los MVP’s exploraron nuevos
ritmos que son evidentes en el primer sencillo “La
Vecina”, el cual incorpora un toque de rock, un
poco de instrumentos de viento-metal y el sonido característico
del reggaeton. Es una mezcla con la que el dúo
espera sorprender a sus fans.
Durante estos tres años Ángel y Khriz
se la han pasado de gira y también grabaron “Carita
de Ángel”, el primer sencillo del álbum
de compilación “Invasión”
en el que se incluye la música de varios grandes
del género del reggaeton como Don Omar, Daddy
Yankee, Wisin y Yandel, entre otros. El sencillo también
está incluido en su nuevo disco “Showtime”.
El dúo tomó más tiempo en el estudio
para grabar el remix de “Psicofonía”
junto con la cantante legendaria del pop latino Gloria
Trevi.
Recientemente, Excélsior tuvo la oportunidad
de platicar con Ángel sobre el disco nuevo, la
evolución del género del reggaeton y qué
han hecho Ángel y Khriz en los últimos
tres años.
¿Por qué cambiaron de disqueras?
Pues entendimos que podríamos realizar un mejor
trabajo con otra disquera. Tuvimos un pequeño
problema, pero fue algo que se pudo solucionar y ahora
todo está en el pasado. Ahora estamos con VI
Music y Machete Music y esperamos que el cambio sea
bueno para los dos. Ellos confían en nuestro
talento y conocemos el poder de la disquera.
¿Cómo fue la experiencia de trabajar con
Gloria Trevi?
Pues no se tiene que decir mucho de ella. Todos conocen
su trayectoria y es una diva. Ella es igual de exigente
que nosotros en lo que a trabajo se refiere. Ella es
bien perfeccionista y estuvimos encantados de trabajar
con alguien tan profesional como Gloria Trevi.
Después de una ausencia de tres años,
¿qué ofrecen a los fans para demostrarles
que deben escuchar nuevamente a Ángel y Khriz?
La gente ya sabe lo que les podemos dar. Lo que la gente
espera de Ángel y Khriz es algo bien movido y
algo para todas las edades. No todo el reggaeton es
para todos. Algunos artistas solamente se enfocan en
los jóvenes, pero nosotros queremos llegar a
todo tipo de público.
¿Qué pasa con el reggaeton? ¿A
dónde crees que va el género?
Al principio era música que, obviamente, la gente
no estaba muy familiarizada y les encantaba. En ese
momento, artistas estaban creando la música solamente
porque era el género del momento y no porque
querían hacer música buena. Lo que eso
hizo fue saturar el mercado porque no todo lo que salió
era bueno. Ahora, el público es más selectivo
y no todo lo que sale es un éxito.

has been three years since we first heard
the mega-hit by reggaetoneros Angel y
Khriz titled “Ven Bailalo,”
which pumped through dance clubs throughout
the United States, Puerto Rico and Latin
America. Now the duo has released its
first studio production in three years
“Showtime.”
For this album, los MVP’s explored
new rhythms that are evident in the first
single “La vecina,” which
incorporates a touch of rock, some brass
and the signature reggaeton beats. It
is a mixture that the duo hopes will surprise
its fans.
Over the last three years, Angel y Khriz
has been keeping busy touring and recording
“Carita de angel,” which was
the first single released from the compilation
album “Invasion” that featured
the music of reggaeton stars like Don
Omar, Daddy Yankee, Wisin y Yandel and
others. The single is also included in
“Showtime.” The duo spent
more time in the studio as it recorded
a remix of the single “Psicofonia”
alongside legendary Latin pop singer Gloria
Trevi.
Recently, Excelsior had the chance to
talk with Angel to discuss the duo’s
newest album, the evolution of the reggaeton
genre and what Angel y Khriz has been
up to for the last three years.
Why did Angel y Khriz change record labels?
Well we realized that we could achieve
more with another label. We had a brief
problem, but it wasn’t anything
that couldn’t be solved and now
everything is in the past. Now we are
with VI Music and Machete Music and we
hope that the change will be great for
both of us. They trust our talent and
we know the power the label has.
What was it like to work with Gloria Trevi?
You don’t have to say much about
her. Everyone knows about her career and
she is a diva. She is just as demanding
as we are when it comes to our work. She
is a perfectionist and we are delighted
to have worked with such a professional
like Gloria Trevi.
After a three year absence, what can you
offer your fans to show them that they
should come back and listen to your music?
The people already know what we can give
them. What the people want from Angel
y Khriz is something that you can move
to and something for all ages. Not all
reggaeton is for everyone. Some artists
choose to focus on teenagers, but we want
to reach every age group.
What is the current state of the reggaeton
genre? Where do you think the genre is
heading?
In the beginning it was music that, obviously,
the people weren’t too familiar
with it and they loved it. At that moment,
artists were making the music only because
it was the genre of the moment and not
because they wanted to make good music.
In turn, what that did was over saturate
the market because not everything that
was released was very good. Now, the public
has become more selective and not everything
that is reggaeton is a hit.
